Carina has been a member of the Fairy Tail Guild ever since she was a little girl. She's a lightning mage with magic she calls "Lightning Strike", an ability to create and control lighting as well teleporting through the lightning. She can even control electrical energy released light such as lamps, plugs, etc. She earned the nickname "Carina the Storm". Her Fairy Tail Guild stamp is located on her lower back.

Like everyone else in the guild, she had a troubled past. She had 3 older brothers, 2 were lightning mages and the other brother studied artifacts and antiques in his own shop. This brother was who Carina lived with while her other brothers lived within the guild. But the eldest of the brothers considered himself the strongest in the family and was constantly coming and going as he pleased. One night when the two younger brothers and Carina were out running errands, they were attacked by a powerful demon mage named Sapera who found the family's power unique and useful and wanted it for his own. Carina managed to escape with the help of her brothers, but they were killed soon after by Sapera using his magic to summon snakes known as Serpente. Now Carina is determined to one day find the demon to avenge her brothers' death and overcome her fear of snakes that he had brought upon her. At the same time she grows to hate her eldest brother since he called his siblings weak and so they deserved to die as well as her. Other than dealing with her horrible, cold-hearted brother, she soon discovers Sapera's been working alongside with the Phantom Lord Guild and so she vowed to do everything in her power to get close to him.

Aside from her ambition, she gets along with almost everyone in Fairy Tail. Most of the guild calls her "feign Carina", because she seems to have only 2 kinds of moods most of the time. One side of her is happy, energetic, and always smiling and having fun. Her other side is quiet and cold, wanting to be alone and confined to her thoughts. This face is usually either mean or depressing and is caused by flashbacks from her past. It's because of her constant nightmares that gives her this mood at least once a day. No one knows who her surviving brother is, so her family is a complete mystery. All they know is the initial to her last name "D". However, Master Makarov is the only one who knows who her family is and promised her he wouldn't tell anyone since she's too ashamed to be related to a such a cruel man.

She doesn't really like anyone, or more to say she hasn't settled her heart on anyone yet. She has a bit of a crush on Gray, the Ice mage and finds it entertaining as well as embarrassing whenever he takes off his clothes. Another member she thinks is cute is Loki, but so does every other girl. But Carina also has a regrettable crush for the Phantom Lord's strongest guild member and a member of the Elemental 4, Gazille (aka Iron Dragon Gazille). At one point along the war between the rival guilds, Gazille finds her magic abilities to be useful since her lightning magic could boost his own iron magic. With their magic combined, he would be even more powerful than ever. So lately he seems to be trying to kidnap her and use her. Carina would be torn between her feelings for wanting him, hating him, and despising the guild he represented.
